The process to update the Florida Building Code (FBC) is well underway and quickly coming to an end. In 2021, during Phase 1 consideration of proposed changes, the FL Technical Advisory Committees (TAC) rejected proposals to incorporate the tall mass timber provisions from the 2021 IBC. Again in 2022, as part of the Phase 2 update to the FBC, the TACs have recommended disapproval of the tall wood proposals prepared by AWC. There is currently an opportunity for the public to comment on the recommendation for disapproval and to request the TACs reconsider their previous actions.
The deadline to submit online comments in support of the AWC proposal to include tall mass timber in the FL Building Code is August 26, 2022.
