Wisconsin’s state codes are uniform for all jurisdictions in the state. The commercial building code applies to all commercial buildings (public buildings and places of employment) with few limited exceptions. The Uniform Dwelling Code applies to all one- and two-family dwellings constructed on or after June 1, 1980. The State codes are uniform (mini/maxi) codes with strict limitations on municipal authority to have in place differing provisions.
Code amendments do not involve subjects impacting wood construction.
Wisconsin is currently reviewing the 2021 I-Codes for a possible update in Mid 2023.
The State adopted the 2015 editions of the IBC, IEBC, and IECC on May 1, 2018. Wisconsin adopts and modifies the IBC, IECC, IMC, IFGC, and the IEBC as their Commercial Building Code.
Wisconsin adopted the 2015 editions of the I-Codes in May of 2018.
