New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code (UCC) adopts codes by regulation. The codes are administered by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Division of Codes & Standards. They are uniform statewide and local jurisdictions are not permitted to amend.
Please review the information found here for code adoption information:

The tall mass timber provisions went into effect in 2022.
There are several revisions reducing the height and area of wood buildings. Additionally, there are several pieces of ongoing and pending legislation, which if passed would impact and limit the use of light wood framing materials.
New Jersey typically adopts the latest version of the I-Codes on a three (3) year cycle.
New Jersey adopted the 2018 I-Codes on 9-3-19. NJ typically adopts the triennial edition in September and permits building permit applicants to choose what edition of the code the project is submitted under with a 6-month window either way (i.e., a Tall Mass Timber project could theoretically be submitted in March 2022 under the 2021 IBC provisions).
