In December 2019 the Mississippi Building Code Council adopted the 2018 International Codes, including the IBC, IRC, and IECC. However, because codes are adopted at the local level, this means local jurisdictions which adopt codes must currently adopt either the 2018, 2015, or 2012 edition of the International Codes (within the three latest editions of the International Codes), or they may “opt out.†This building code “adoption†by the Mississippi Building Codes Council began in 2014. Statewide enforcement of the Mississippi Fire Prevention Code, and by reference the 2012 International Building Code and 2012 International Residential Code, applies to state-owned buildings and certain others, including; public assembly buildings not under a local code; high rise buildings not under a local code; correction facilities not under a local code; fraternity and sorority houses on state-owned property.
