Plan review, enforcement and inspection is provided statewide, but in most cases the local municipalities provide the enforcement services on behalf of the State. The State provides a Statewide Jurisdiction List to assist users of the code with their permitting needs.
State inspectors exist for projects where local code officials do not provide inspection.
Code amendments do not involve subjects impacting wood construction.
Michigan had planned to adopt the 2018 IBC in 2022, however those plans have changed, and they will begin looking to skip the 2018 IBC and begin reviewing the 2021 IBC in 2023.
Michigan is beginning to review the 2021 IBC for adoption.
Michigan adopted the 2015 IBC in April of 2017 and the 2018 IRC in October of 2021.
