Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) – Bureau of Construction Codes
Plan review, enforcement, and inspection is provided statewide, but in most cases the local municipalities provide the enforcement services on behalf of the State. The State provides a Statewide Jurisdiction List to assist users of the code with their permitting needs.
State inspectors exist for projects where local code officials do not provide inspection.
Codes amendments do not touch on wood construction subjects.
Michigan has adopted the 2015 edition of the IBC effective April 20, 2017. In late 2017, LARA held a public hearing on their residential code and determined they would not be moving to adopt the 2018 International Residential Code. LARA works with the State of Michigan Building Code Ad Hoc Committee to advise the legislature on adoption, and there is no information on the next cycle.
