LEESBURG, VA. – American Wood Council (AWC) President and CEO Jackson Morrill issued the following statement in response to Randy Moore’s appointment as the 20th Chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Forest Service.
“Chief Moore is fantastic choice to lead the Forest Service in its mission to sustain the health and productivity of our nation’s forests, especially given his experience in wildfire-prone areas. The ongoing wildfires in the Pacific Northwest demand a more aggressive approach to federal forestland management that is focused on fire mitigation to protect public safety, property and contiguous forests.
“AWC congratulates Chief Moore on his appointment and looks forward to working with him to support productive federal forests and the products that come from them, which represent both a carbon sink and renewable resource. Wood is key to a more sustainable future. Simply substituting wood for conventional building materials could provide almost a tenth of the global carbon emission reductions needed to meet 2030 goals.”
