AWC Commends EPA’s PCWP MACT Rule

The American Wood Council (AWC) commends the Environmental Protection Agency’s finalization of the Plywood and Composite Wood Products (PCWP) National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), also known as PCWP Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule, marking an important milestone following years of information sharing by industry stakeholders to the EPA.

Throughout the multi-year rulemaking process, AWC and its members have worked closely with EPA to develop data, arrange mill visits, and provide technical expertise and practical insights to ensure the final rule is reasonable and implementable. This collaboration has led to a rule that protects public health and largely aligns with business practices and the diverse conditions under which mills operate, allowing mills to continue to provide the beneficial wood products that build American homes and businesses.

“The rule provides clear standards and flexibility that will enable mills to comply effectively, invest with confidence, and continue contributing to local economies. We are grateful to the EPA for its work to create a balanced and practical rule grounded in the law,” said AWC’s Vice President of Environment Tim Hunt.

AWC and its member companies remain committed stewards of the environment and the communities where they operate and look forward to continued collaboration with EPA on any implementation challenges.
