AWC Applauds Passage of 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

The American Wood Council (AWC) commends Congress for recognizing the severity of America’s housing crisis and taking significant steps to address it. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act includes a number of positive provisions, including streamlining permitting, reducing regulatory barriers to new construction, and expanding support for manufactured and modular housing, all of which will help unlock the housing starts our country urgently needs. 

“We are grateful to Congress for passing these important reforms and for their bipartisan commitment to solving the housing crisis. As the voice of the structural wood products industry and its nearly 465,000 workers, AWC supports efforts to build more homes, cut unnecessary red tape, and modernize federal housing programs, all of which drive demand for American-made wood products and support family-wage jobs in rural communities across the country,” said AWC President and CEO Jackson Morrill. 

“President Trump has championed making housing more affordable for American families, and we appreciate his prior endorsement of this legislation. We urge him to sign the Act into law quickly so his Administration can begin implementation and deliver real, meaningful relief to home builders, buyers, and renters across the country.” 

AWC looks forward to working with HUD, Congress, and the Administration to support the implementation of this legislation, and will continue to advocate for housing policies that expand supply and for the consensus-based development of building codes.
