Mass Timber Featured in “Women of Carbon” Documentary
“Women of Carbon,” a documentary released in 2024, features AWC’s Vice President of Markets and Sustainability, Rachael Jamison, as one of the leading women of carbon who are working to decarbonize the built environment through research, construction, policy and advocacy.
Jamison joined nearly a dozen other women on screen from the wood, concrete and steel industries to discuss how each industry is advancing technology and innovating in the construction space in relation to reducing embodied carbon in building materials. Jamison discussed mass timber’s sustainability benefits, as well as its growing adoption across the nation. With over 2,000 mass timber buildings built or in progress, it stands above other options as a right now solution to decarbonizing the built environment, a point articulated in the film. The documentary highlighted specific mass timber projects like the T3 in Atlanta, the Heartwood in Seattle, and the mass timber modular homes used to rebuild Greenville, California.
AWC and mass timber’s inclusion in the film represents a noted shift in the green building materials movement. Wood products were showcased as a valuable and critical material to decarbonize the built environment and placed on equal footing with concrete and steel.
