The following example illustrates how to read and determine applicable values for SDPWS Table 4.2A.
Yellow - shows the nail spacing at diaphragm boundaries
Orange - shows the nail spacing at continuous panel joints
Green - shows the nail spacing at other panel edges
The 6” nail spacing denoted by Yellow and Orange are those shown in the top row of Table 4.2A for Cases 1 through 4. The 6” nail spacing denoted by Green are those shown for the second row.
The first column denoted by “6” in the top row and “6” in the second row – assumes that the nail spacing at diaphragm boundaries (yellow) and continuous panel joints (orange) is 6” while the nail spacing at other panel edges (green) is also 6”. The second column denoted by “4” in the top row and “6” in the second row - assumes that the nail spacing at diaphragm boundaries and continuous panel joints is 4” while the nail spacing at other panel edges is 6”. Therefore, in order to use the larger of the 2 columns for 6” (nail spacing at other panel edges) - the nail spacing at diaphragm boundaries and continuous panel joints must be 4”.
