Energy code provisions in House bill enhance product neutrality

WASHINGTON – American Wood Council (AWC) Vice President, Government Affairs Andrew Dodson issued the following statement regarding the introduction of H.R. 2361 by Reps. Marsha Blackburn (TN) and Kurt Schrader (OR). The bill encourages product neutrality in building energy codes and defines the role of the Department of Energy (DOE) as a technical advisor in the development of model energy codes and subsequent state adoption.

Wood products, forestry endorse “Timber Innovation Act”

WASHINGTON – The American Wood Council (AWC), American Forest Foundation (AFF), Binational Softwood Lumber Council (BSLC) and Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (SLMA) today announced their strong support for the “Timber Innovation Act,” introduced by lead sponsors Sens. AWC: Senate Energy Bill step in the right direction for biomass

WASHINGTON – American Wood Council (AWC) Vice President, Government Affairs Sarah Dodge has issued the following statement regarding today’s passage of the “Clean Distributed Energy Grid Integration Act” (S. 2012) in the U.S. Senate. The bill included an amendment led by Sen. Susan Collins (ME) which would require the Secretaries of Energy and Agriculture and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to jointly ensure that federal policy relating to forest bioenergy: (1) is consistent across all departments and agencies; and (2) recognizes the full benefits of the use of forest biomass for energy, conservation and responsible forest management.

Susan Collins, Angus King and Amy Klobuchar. AWC releases Energy UA Calculator app

LEESBURG, VA. – The American Wood Council (AWC) has released an app which will calculate an opaque wall or fenestration U-factor based upon the Total UA alternative compliance method permitted by the International Code Council’s 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or International Residential Code (IRC). This new Energy UA Calculator is consistent with AWC’s Design for Code Acceptance 7, “Meeting Residential Energy Requirements with Wood-Frame Construction.”

WASHINGTON – American Wood Council (AWC) Vice President, Government Affairs Sarah Dodge has issued the following statement regarding today’s House Energy & Commerce Committee mark up of the “North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act of 2015” (H.R. 8). Language from a stand-alone bill introduced by Reps. Marsha Blackburn (TN) and Kurt Schrader (OR) was included, advocating product neutrality in building energy codes and redefining the role of the Department of Energy (DOE) as a technical advisor in the development of model energy codes and subsequent state adoption.
